Coral Medical Care::Urgent Care/Walk-In Clinic - What Is Urgent Care?

What is Urgent Care

Urgent care clinics provide treatment for non-life threatening conditions that though not an emergency, still require immediate medical attention. This includes a range of illnesses and injuries, from flu, bronchitis, asthma, diarrhea, vomiting, urinary tract infections, suturing/wound care, sprains, etc. For a detailed list of our services please see our Services page.

Urgent care clinics also provide medical care after hours, over the weekend, and whenever the primary care physician is unavailable. Medical care is typically quickly needed when a person falls sick and an appointment with the regular physician may not be available immediately. Work schedules of some people also do not permit appointments during regular business hours. Urgent care clinics provide walk-in medical care when needed, over the weekend, and without appointment delays.

What is NOT Urgent Care

Urgent care clinics are NOT a substitute for the ER. In case of life threatening emergencies, please call 911 immediately. These include, but are not limited to, the following conditions:

  • Chest pain
  • Severe weakness or numbness in any part of the body
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Sudden severe vision changes or blindness

In all life threatening situations call 911.

Why a Physician is needed in an Urgent Care setting

Physicians go through a rigorous education and training process. This includes at least 8 years of university education and at least 3 years of residency training. During this period they are exposed to a large numbers of illnesses and medical conditions. This makes a physician best qualified to rapidly diagnose medical conditions and provide quick and appropriate treatment. Only a physician is qualified to interpret and perform certain tests and procedures, e.g. EKG, suturing, incision and drainage, etc.
